Child Custody
Child custody in Oklahoma can mean many different things depending on the situation. However, simply put, there are two basic types of custody: joint custody (shared by the parents) or sole custody (one parent). The word “custody” actually has two meanings: legal custody (who makes the decisions regarding the children’s upbringing, care, etc.) and physical custody (the parent(s) with whom the children reside). Determining which parent will have custody of the children, or whether the parents will have joint custody of the children, can be agreed to by the parents or the Court must decide based on what is in the best interests of the children. Once child custody is determined, then child support must be calculated.
